Portrait of Margaret Van Eyck - 1439

Portrait of Margaret Van Eyck - 1439
Stedelijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Bruges

This painting of Margaret Van Eyck is the only surviving portrait of a woman by Van Eyck. Margaret Van Eyck is known to have been the wife of Jan Van Eyck, but no definite record of their marriage date exists today. Historians believe that they married around 1433, that they lived in Bruges and that they had several children.
