The French subject is done in the 6th Year of the course.  It is layed out as if you start the whole French course again.  It teaches you the basics about French like, how to order from a Frech menu, how to greet someone in French, how to introduce yourself, about your nationality, countries and languages, basic numbers and likes and dislikes, etc. 

If you never did French in the Junior Cert, it gives you the chance to learn a different language.   At the end of the year you do an aural, a written and an oral test.  The test is not as hard as it would be in the normal Leaving Cert.
